Workshop | The Intersections of Diversity, Equity, Inclusion, and Belonging within Indian Country
When applying the DEIB framework to Tribal and Indigenous people, they are often grouped in with other communities of color. However, this overlooks the unique relationship tribes have with the federal government, the intricacies of tribal citizenship, and the diverse makeup of Tribal and Indigenous communities. For instance, while not every Indigenous person maintains tribal citizenship, there are specific concepts and nuances that make DEIB look different for these communities. In this workshop, Adam will unpack the contextual differences in perspective, values, and practices when applying the DEIB framework to Tribal and Indigenous people. This will underscore the importance of refining the DEIB approach to address the unique needs and realities of Tribal and Indigenous communities.
