This year, nineteen leading municipalities have combined resources to present this one-day conference on October 23, 2018 at the Oregon Convention Center. They are Multnomah, Clackamas, Clark and Washington Counties; Cities of Portland, Hillsboro, Gresham, Tigard, Tualatin, Lake Oswego, and Beaverton; Metro, Prosper Portland, Home Forward, Oregon Health Authority, TriMet, Tualatin Hills Park & Recreation District, Department of Environmental Quality, and Beaverton School District.

Who will attend:  Public employees at all organizational levels including line employees, technicians, managers and executives.

This collaboration offers a unique opportunity to cross diverse boundaries in pursuit of a common purpose that promotes the values of inclusion, cultural awareness, and equal opportunity.

The theme for this year’s Northwest Public Employees Diversity Conference is “Confronting Ourselves, Challenging Our Systems.” This conference will aim to offer each employee an opportunity for introspection and self-awareness, because even the most ardent person committed to Equity, Diversity, and Inclusion (EDI) must confront their own unconscious bias and privilege. Only by holding a mirror to ourselves and our organizations can we begin to challenge our systems and remove the roadblocks that stifle the progress needed for public employees to best serve our respective communities. This 25th anniversary conference comes at a time when there is no room for complacency or maintaining the status-quo. Every public employee has the power to affect change in their organization, but together we can move the needle that much further.

We are focusing on the skills and techniques that public employees need to achieve Diversity, Equity and Inclusion in the public sector workplace. This is your opportunity to train a large group of public employees to better serve our population. As our conference continues to expand, we welcome new ideas and innovations to enhance public service. In your proposal, please outline what contemporary learning techniques will be used to engage conference attendees to actively participate throughout each session.

Presenter Information: The conference is seeking presenters and facilitators to conduct workshops during two (2) 90-minute morning sessions and one (1) 2-hour afternoon session.

All proposals will be reviewed by a panel of conference planning committee members and you may be contacted by one with further questions about your proposal. You will be notified by email if you are selected to present at the conference. Note that all conference presentation materials (handouts, PowerPoint, etc.) must be submitted 3 weeks prior to the event (October 2, 2018). Any presenter not sending materials to the Conference Coordinator by that date is subject to cancellation of the presentation.

The conference will pay selected presenters an honorarium of $200.00 per session. *Public Sector employees are not eligible for compensation.

We recognize the honorarium scale may not be commensurate with the customary charges of some consultants. However, participation in the conference will provide exposure to public agencies which have continuing needs for training and organizational development services. It also offers an opportunity for consultants to contribute to the community in this region.

The conference will also provide selected presenters a complimentary pass to the conference luncheon and keynote address, as well as access to the full day of activities at the conference. All presenters will receive recognition for their contributions. We thank you for helping us to make this conference the best yet.
